31Since this is the last entry in year 2006, I will tell what a little of this blog’s so-called history.
Before Blogging
If I’m not mistaken, I’m still playing Ragnarok Online around March, and joined a guild. The guild has a forum for game related discussions such as the war strategies and guild announcements. The forum is powered by InvisionFree, as I’m curious - I went to InvisionFree’s site and eventually created a forum in a few clicks. I then joined a forum which have a lot of InvisionFree resources - and start playing around with my forum styles and functions using those pre-made forum skins and mods. After that, I have my forum reviewed at the other forum, and saw someone blog his review using a free hosted blog at WordPress.com
My first WordPress blog
I know nothing about WordPress, and went to WordPress.com to check it out. I then created a blog (http://exchannel.wordpress.com) there since it’s free and blog about my life. I’m kinda happy with it, but later disappointed when I knew that I can’t use any scripts on it. Later, I discover WordPress.org - but I don’t know how it works. I know nothing about web hosting, but I manage to create an account from a free hosting site later. I then started playing with it and slowly learn from it. After I got the basics, I downloaded a copy of WordPress and installed it on the free hosting.
VincentChow.net
Everything is great, and I’m using a subdomain provided by the host at the time. As I want my own domain so much, I searched for free domains and stumbled upon HostBidder. Slowly, I collected enough points to request for a free domain. At first, I thought of registering vincentchow.com, but it has been taken by a kung fu dude that have the same name as me, even the surname. Since there’s no better choice, I picked vincentchow.net.
DreamHost
You know, most free hosting can’t provide you reliable service. Some of them have very poor uptime, and will always threaten to close your account. While some host that have good uptime provide you with very limited space and bandwidth - and poor support. I got fed up and go for a paid hosting. The reason I use DreamHost is because it’s real cheap after using a maximum promo code and because they offer hell lots of space and bandwidth. So far, I’m quite happy with them, the only problem I don’t like is their support. They sometimes used more than 24 hours to reply a single email.
What I’ve learnt so far
I’ve been blogging for months, and I’ve learnt about html, how websites works, and the most important, I can’t really write something good. For example, I don’t even know what I’m trying to say in this post.
