Registration of Malaysian Blogger

The Malaysian government is trying to do something that no one else do - and to me, it is mission impossible. They are trying to get all bloggers in Malaysia to be registered, so they can track us down if we are so-called “spreading disharmony and lies”. Unless all Malaysian blogger is using the same and only blog platform, host and system, registering all Malaysian bloggers will be the hardest thing I can ever thought of.

Before this, they want all handphone prepaid users to register their prepaid number. As there is only a few operator in Malaysia, it is not hard at all. The operators will just send an sms to its users to inform them about it, and they will register it. But blogs, we can host it anywhere. How the hell can they track every single blog? I have a few dead blogs, will I need to register them too?

Creating a blog is a few seconds task, and I can create as many blogs as I want. If I were to register every single blog, there will be no more freedom. Well, maybe they can do this by the help of Malaysia’s main ISP, the TMNet Streamyx as known as TMNut Screamyx, the slowest narrowband ever.

I’m fear this news will raise another issue among Malaysia’s internet users. This is not what we want. If you have some extra bucks and energy, improve our broadband service. Make sure the crime rates is low. Improve our living quality. If there is survey being done on this, I’m quite sure others will agree with me. I don’t believe words from a blogger can be more harmful than those criminals. Read the news below from a local newspaper.

Cyber law mulled to block lies in blogs

BY HAH FOONG LIAN

SITIAWAN: Registering bloggers may be a “stricter” way to stop cyberspace writers from spreading disharmony and lies.

Acknowledging that the registration of bloggers was a difficult task, Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Kong Cho Ha said that it needed the cooperation of other countries.

Kong said: “We need to have stricter cyber laws to prevent these bloggers from disseminating disharmony, chaos, seditious material and lies.

“We are talking about creating cyber laws to control those who misuse the Internet,” he added.

Kong noted that the high number of bloggers in the country was a good development if they used the Internet constructively.

However, he said, some of them would put up sensational or controversial articles or images to attract readers to their blogs.

“We want our bloggers to be responsible, to keep within the rules and not put up seditious articles that can create disharmony and chaos,” he said.

Citing the example of the recent picture of Gombak MP Datuk Dr Rahman Ismail and Senator Datin Paduka Norhayati Onn, Kong said it reflected the irresponsible acts of some bloggers.

“Now we have cyber laws to check such misuse but the laws need to change to keep up with the times.

“This is because technology changes faster than our laws,” he said yesterday after opening the inaugural computer fair at Dewan Merdeka in Seri Manjung, near here.

The fair was organised by the Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry of Malaysia (Pikom).

I’m glad that I am not running any politic related blog. Wondering if those Malaysia politic related bloggers feel threaten by this news. I feel that we’re insulted - don’t we know what’s true and what’s false? Everyone have the freedom of speech. What they wanna say, let them. The important part is to make us believe in them. If I were the government, I would rather make the citizens to trust me - rather than making effort to close up lies.

What can I do now? Hmm, guess I will be adding an EFF badge on my sidebar.
Just hope that Malaysia won’t enter the “Internet Black Hole” list.
