Ten years old Ryan Dickey found a four-legged chick around an incubator at his Te Uku home on Monday September 4, 2006. Mum, Marlene, breeds 14 types of chickens, says that it was the first time she had seen a four-legged chick. Although the chick has four legs, but it only uses its bottom two legs to walk on.

There is also other four-legged chickens being reported in Romania and Saudi Arabia. Hamilton vet Keith Houston said in the Dickey’s chick case, stem cells in the egg had divided into four instead of two, meaning an extra pair of legs.
