12th Malaysian General Election Results

Malaysia is running its 12th general election on 8th of March 2008. The voting has ended 8 hours ago, and results are coming slowly now. Below is the results for Pilihan Raya so far for now:

State
Barisan Nasional (BN) – 305 seats
Democratic Action Party (DAP) – 73 seats
Parti KeADILan Rakyat (PKR) – 40 seats
Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) 83 seats

Parliament
Barisan Nasional (BN) – 137 seats
Democratic Action Party (DAP) – 28 seats
Parti KeADILan Rakyat (PKR) – 23 seats
Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) 31 seats

Noteworthy

  • Barisan Nasional will form a new Government with simple majority of 127
  • The opposition won Penang, DAP’s Lim Guan Eng might be the next Penang Chief Minister.
  • The opposition has so far won Penang, Kedah, Selangor, Perak and Kelantan
  • MIC president S Samy Vellu loses his Sungai Siput parliamentary seat which he has held for nine terms
  • The opposition has apparently denied Barisan Nasional’s 2/3 majority
  • Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin failed to defend his Sg Petani seat, congratulations!!
