Malaysia is running its 12th general election on 8th of March 2008. The voting has ended 8 hours ago, and results are coming slowly now. Below is the results for Pilihan Raya so far for now:
State
Barisan Nasional (BN) - 305 seats
Democratic Action Party (DAP) - 73 seats
Parti KeADILan Rakyat (PKR) - 40 seats
Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) 83 seats
Parliament
Barisan Nasional (BN) - 137 seats
Democratic Action Party (DAP) - 28 seats
Parti KeADILan Rakyat (PKR) - 23 seats
Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) 31 seats
Noteworthy
- Barisan Nasional will form a new Government with simple majority of 127
- The opposition won Penang, DAP’s Lim Guan Eng might be the next Penang Chief Minister.
- The opposition has so far won Penang, Kedah, Selangor, Perak and Kelantan
- MIC president S Samy Vellu loses his Sungai Siput parliamentary seat which he has held for nine terms
- The opposition has apparently denied Barisan Nasional’s 2/3 majority
- Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin failed to defend his Sg Petani seat, congratulations!!
