So you are trapped in a burning building with no way out and no one noticing you. The picture suggest that you head over to the nearest toilet, and get some air in it. Is there anyone who know exactly whether the air in that particular space are fresh airs or sewer gas?

I don’t know and I will never know. Just seeing that picture almost made me sick
If I ever get in that situation, I think I will rather subdue to the smoke.

I guess if the drain is in use, it is not surprise that we can get fresh air instead of kinda ‘marsh gas’ cos mire can’t pile up under running water. But fresh air does not equal to clean air. It may keep u alive, but it may not keep u out of other trouble

Are you kidding me? How about having a plan before hand. If the place looks like you could get trapped in it from a fire, start planning before you have to lock yourself in the bathroom and start sucking toilet water air. Come on people!

The whole reason for the water in the trap under the toilet (through which the snorkel is passing) is to keep the sewer gases from coming out of the toilet into the bathroom. So you can be sure, even if the vent stack is nearby, that you’d be breathing sewer gases. That’s not a good idea.
