WebAppers – Blog Review

{ September 9, 2007 }

WebAppers gave me a familiar yet impressive look when I first land on it. It is using the BloggingPro theme that I once tried to use on my other blog and later gave up using it after I failed to tweak it the way I want. Ray did a good job on changing the color scheme of the theme as well as the classy logo up there.

What is WebAppers?

The tag line says “Only the best free resources for web application developers“. However, Ray, the one behind WebAppers that have more than 10 years experience on the topic he is writing does not just blog on those, but also writes on web monetizing in the Advertisements category. I guess that’s one of the few blog categories that I actually understand and interested. Most other articles that Ray writes is like they are written in other language, since I don’t understand nearly every single word.

Not that Ray’s English is poor, or I don’t understand English, is that I’m just a blogger that know nothing on web application development. Below are a few of my favorite articles on WebAppers, that might be good to read by other bloggers too:

Some of the articles that I like

Stock Photos – Thought of just linking to one of those stock photos articles, but it should be more useful if I link to the whole category. Images are kinda important when writing blog post, it makes your words less boring and more alive. Finding a good image might be a hassle however, but you could check out Ray’s Stock Photos category for tips on finding high quality stock photos.

Advertise and Monetize with LiveRail Video Advertising – One of those web monetizing article that introduce a new website that offers free video upload and video monetizing. Meaning that we can upload our videos for free there, embed the video on our blog and generate some revenue. Might use it here near future.

Typetester – Compare Fonts for the Screen – Although I’m not a web designer, but I have a habit of tweaking my blog’s theme to my liking. Ray introduced a tool in this post that will help to compare fonts quickly. This means that I no longer have to alter my CSS, then reload my blog to see the effect, which also means less time will be wasted

How WebAppers is being monetized?

Impressive, I would say. WebAppers is just a few months old but is making much more than this blog which is more than one year old. Without having to clutter the blog content at all, Ray is making at least $600 a month — which is almost double of what this blog is making. Ray’s well organized “Advertise” page must be helping a lot in this. The advertisements WebAppers serve are not just not distracting, but is spicing the blog up in my opinion, with those colorful banners and such.

Room for improvements

WebAppers have a lot of categories, this is good for easier navigation, but if it is almost impossible to fill the category with at least 10 entries, the category should be deleted. It might be too early to decide which category will be useful and which don’t, so Ray might want to decide later. I have a few categories here that doesn’t have a decent number of entries in them too, but I’m just too lazy to clean them up :P

I saw a login link too under “Meta” on the sidebar. If Ray is the only author of the blog, I would say the link is not required at all. Bookmarking the link would be a better choice. Right above the footer, there is this “Recent comments” bar. It looks too messy that I couldn’t actually read or understand it. Not sure what can be done to solve this though.

Recap!

To those who are into web application development, I am quite sure that they will enjoy reading Ray’s articles. Ray keep things short and simple, and that makes me understand how a few months blog can already have more than 2000 subscribers. Very impressive indeed. I guess I would stop here or the review would be way too long that no one will bother to read.

Thank you for the excellent and thorough review. If I have another website, I am sure I will contact you again for a review. It is really worthwhile.

Thanks again for the review. :)

Glad that you’re happy with it. Thought you might not like it since I added lots of crap in it, like comparing your blog with mine. O.O
