Importance of Registering A Domain Name

I registered vincentchow.net more than a year ago, and I am glad I did. For some history, I was first blogging at WordPress.com seeing it is quite professional and clean, rather than Blogger. I later found that WordPress.com has too much restriction and decided to move on with a self-hosted WordPress. This is when problem comes, free hosting is seen all over the place, but not for a free domain name.

Luckily, I just found one and successfully registering one after all the hard work fulfilling their request (posting on forum collecting points). The domain is later being transfered to my web hosting provider. Today, I am glad that I make the move to fight for my own domain rather than using some free sub-domains.

Getting your own domain is important if you are serious in developing your website or blog. Just this afternoon, I read an article by a blogger telling his story about his blog on Blogger. He has been blogging on Blogger for two years, and his blog was deleted by Blogger just within a day. All articles are gone, and all work he has done including SEO are gone. He later get his blog restored by Blogger, but the sub-domain he previously used was taken, sad case. He then move to his own domain, losing out everything including his priceless work in term of SEO.

Registering a domain name is nothing difficult, provided you have two things. The first one is money, $10 will be sufficient, and the second thing is to understand English. Domain name can be registered at websites like Triple.com. The first step you have to do is to make sure your preferred domain name is still available. In this case, use the search function on Triple.com. Enter your desired domain name (without extension) in the provided space and hit the “Search” button.

Find a domain

You will then see a list of domain name listed. If it is ticked in green, the domain is still available. If you see a red cross, it means that the domain name has already taken by someone else. The list on the right column are suggestions that are given in case your domain has already been taken. If your domain name is available, tick the domain name and click on “add selected” at the bottom of the page. You will then lead to a sign up page where you will have to enter your information. If you understand English, most probably you won’t have any problem with it.

Why Triple.com

Registering a domain name can be easy, but associating it to your web host might be confusing for beginners. In this case, a user friendly control panel is much needed. Triple.com stated on their “About” page that they have two goals.

  • Maximum user friendly principles
  • Absolute technical reliability of our solutions

What can be better than that? You can even contact the support team via phone which will be available at 24 hours a day. That is really great as even my web hosting provider doesn’t provide such support service, although support for web hosting is much more needed than just a domain registrar.

Just one thing I have to point out, it has the world “problem” spelled wrongly as “priblems” on their about page. That is not a big deal although it might seriously hurt their reputation, even Google make mistakes too.
