How to modify your Windows owner & organization name

{ April 15, 2007 }

This trick will be handy if your Windows XP or Vista are installed by your computer dealer or is a second hand computer. Wouldn’t it be cool to see your name (or company’s name) instead of just “user” as the owner of the computer? Just follow the simple steps below and you’re set to go.

Steps to modify your windows owner or company name:

  1. Start > Run
  2. Type regedit and press enter or click on “OK”
  3. Run Regedit

  4. Go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion node
  5. Look for the values RegisteredOwner and RegisteredOrganization, double click on them and change their values to your name or organization’s name

  6. Done!

Just in case you don’t know what you are doing, and to avoid mistakes, backup your registry first so that you can revert the changes you’ve made if something goes wrong. To backup your registry, click on File > Export when you’re on the registry window – or follow the steps here for detailed instructions.

Do this at your own risk, I’m would not be responsible if anything goes wrong during the process. But if you do this correctly, there shouldn’t be any problem.
